2nd IAEA Technical Working Group on SMRs
On July 8-11, 2019 at the IAEA Headquarter in Vienna, the 2nd meeting of the TWG on Small-medium size and Modular reactors took place.
The meeting was attended by 28 representatives from several Member States (Argentina, Australia, Canada, France, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Rep. of Korea, Pakistan, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Ukraine, UK, USA and European Commission) and chaired by prof. Ricotti.
18 IAEA Officers participated to the meeting, to share with the TWG the results and information from the current and planned activities of the Agency around the SMR topic.
The presentations offered during the meeting demonstrate a growing interest of several Member States towards SMR development & deployment. Several SMR projects are currently under construction: CAREM (Argentina), KLT40S (Russia), HTR-PM (China), while others are at an advanced stage of development (SMART – S.Korea & Saudi Arabia, NuScale – USA, ACP-100 – China, RITM200 – Russia).
